The Lumberjack's hut is the most basic Production building in the game. It is unlocked as soon as an island is settled. It produces Wood, which is one of the most important resources in the game. It requires 33 Trees in its Influence area to achieve 100% productivity.

The production chain for Wood consists of a single Lumberjack's hut with at least 33 Trees in its Influence area. If there are less than 33 trees in its working area, the Lumberjack's hut will be less effective, with the effectiveness proportional to the number of trees. The Lumberjack's hut has 60 squares of working space. Hence, the Lumberjack's hut can still maintain 100% productivity if some of its squares in the circle are occupied, as long as it still has 33 Trees in its working area.
If a Lumberjack's hut's circle crosses the circle of another Lumberjack's hut, Charcoal burner's hut or Forest glassworks, productivity loss may occur. The second building that was built receives no productivity benefits from the overlapping squares while the first building maintains full productivity benefits.

Strategy[]
Wood production is most important during the early game. Expanding your Settlement with new houses and setting up production chains to satisfy Inhabitant Needs happens most rapidly just after settling a new island. It is therefore advised to start off with a large number of Lumberjack's huts (Experienced players can easily out pace the production of 8 or more Lumberjack's huts).
When expansion slows down, it is preferable to deactivate Lumberjack's huts rather than demolish them. Lumberjack's huts don't have any maintenance cost when inactive, so there's no unnecessary costs, but when the need for Wood increases again you can reactivate instead of having to rebuild. To this extent, it is generally worth it to create a dedicated Wood production area that won't need to be demolished to make room for other expansions. See Production layouts for examples.
